ROBOTAS - Over a decade of achievement in precision manufacturing equipment Robotas goes into the Millennium celebrating its thirteenth year as a dynamic, UK supplier of computer enhanced manufacturing equipment.

The company has established an international market for its products - and enjoys a reputation for excellent concepts, superb quality and reliable customer support. Robotas was formed in 1987 when its founder and current Chairman, Dave Walters, identified a need within the electronics manufacturing industry for machine assisted manual placement insertion of through-hole and odd form components.

The first MASCOT workstation, the model 160, used relatively frugal computing resources to store build instructions for a PCB assembly. The workstation would then prompt the operator to insert components in sequence, as defined by the storage program. MASCOT 160 was well received by the market. Robotas achieved several multiple orders and noted strong interest from the defence industry, which has particularly well known requirements for low-volume, high quality through-hole assembly.

MASCOT was first introduced to the rest of the world with its first export order for MASCOT in 1989, supplying machines to Tesla in the Czech Republic and Bekotenknik in Turkey. With the introduction in 1990 of the MASCOT PC, based on the ubiquitous PC platform, Robotas experienced strong and steady sales growth. The versatility of the PC platform along with modular design provided the starting point for today's sophisticated MASCOT range, with the first networkable workstations, and the MASCOT standalone carousel, being introduced in 1991.
